Cancer Psychological Therapy

There is no ‘one size fits all’ in cancer. Cancer psychology can encompass a wide range of therapeutic interventions that accommodate the challenges of cancer diagnosis and treatment. As cancer psychologists we deliver a range of therapies and psychological interventions that meet the changing needs of people affected by cancer, including corporate training and coaching.

Adult cancer psychological therapy

Cancer psychological therapy is a special type of therapy that understands how cancer affects both your body and emotions. It helps with the challenges you may face during your cancer treatment, such as fear, grief, body image concerns, changes in relationships, and questions about life's meaning. By addressing your unique psychological and emotional needs during the cancer diagnosis and treatment, cancer psychological therapy provides you with a safe space to explore your feelings, gain valuable insights, receive support, and develop essential skills to navigate your cancer with increased resilience and a sense of empowerment.

Cancer counselling for family, teenage and young adults

Cancer psychological therapy for teenagers and young adults is specifically designed to address the unique emotional and social challenges you may face during your cancer treatment. As specialists, we understand the impact cancer can have on school, friendships, and self-discovery. We provide a safe space for you to express your feelings, manage stress, navigate changes in your body and relationships, and make informed decisions about your healthcare. Our goal is to empower you, helping you cope, adapt, and live a fulfilling life during cancer treatment.

Preparing for cancer surgery

Psychological preparation for major cancer-related surgery is crucial as it alleviates anxiety, equips you with coping strategies, supports informed decision-making, and addresses your holistic needs. By managing your emotions and providing support, you can approach surgery with a more balanced mindset, potentially improving outcomes. Coping strategies will help you navigate challenges such as body changes, the use of stoma bags, and other effects resulting from cancer-related surgery. These strategies enhance your resilience and assist in adapting to the changes you may experience. Overall, psychological preparation enhances your surgical experience, well-being, and adjustment to post-surgery effects.

Collaboration with your cancer treatment team

In cancer psychological therapy, we recognise the significance of a multidisciplinary approach that involves close collaboration with medical professionals. This collaboration aims to better acknowledge the impact of cancer on your mental well-being and ensure coordinated and holistic care. By working together, we gain a comprehensive understanding of your needs, allowing the medical team to address psychological factors that may affect your treatment adherence, decision-making, and overall well-being.
